Anticipating Spring

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

What a difference a year makes. Last year we were already cleaning up the gardens and the mulch was spread in early April. Today, as I stare out the doors to the patio, I still see snow on the garden, ice on the bricks and the thermometer is registering 35! Oh how I long for spring! This Mud Season, as we Mainers call it, can be a long and bleak time of year but as I look out I am also seeing some signs of brighter times. The snowdrops are blooming under the birch tree (Amy will be disappointed if I step on them again this year) and a couple daffodils are sprouting near the driveway where the...

End of Summer – We Don’t Think So!

Monday, September 5th, 2016

All I have seen the past couple days is people lamenting online about this weekend being the end of summer. Well I don’t think it this is true. Since I have learned to use Google, I found that this year the autumnal equinox falls on September 22, 2016 at 10:21 A.M. EDT. That is 3 weeks away! ...

Remembering Lupi

Hyperion Lupini Hranicky
May 2003 – June 2016[/caption]

Here it is the first day of September and I am finally sitting down to blog. It has been a long summer and honestly a difficult one for me. As many of you know my mentor, sidekick and best friend, Lupi, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge at the end of June. His absence has left a hole in my heart as I have always had a furry friend in my life until this summer. As much as I love Amy and Mark there is something about having a furry brother or sister who totally understands you. So I have been sad but I have not let that get in the way of my innkeeping duties. Lupi would not have put up with that!...

Revived and Refreshed

Friday, March 18th, 2016

It is that time of year when the cold, dark months are ending and we begin to enjoy a little more warmth and daylight. It is energizing to bask in the sun a bit longer and not have to walk on ice covered puddles. Amy and Mark are also getting re-energized. After completing the kitchen renovation with new stove, sink and counter...

What Do You Want?

Friday, February 19th, 2016

Amy and Mark have stayed at a lot of B&B’s through the years and have taken what they liked during these vacations and incorporated them into guests’ experiences at our place. We have been pampering guests with these comforts since the beginning but we also want to grow and expand what is offered to meet the needs and expectations of our guests....

It is Wicked Quiet

Tuesday, January 5th, 2016

It is the Wicked Quiet Season! January, February and March are historically the quietest time at the B&B and while that means great prices for guests who visit this time of year (check out our rates page) it means work for the innkeepers! This is the time that all the big maintenance projects are done around the house so you may find a room not available for a short period due to a project but overall this is no disruption for guests’ stays. This year’s plan includes new garage doors, painting the Packard Room, touching up the trim throughout the house and installing a custom heat vent in the Garden Suite. I am sure Amy will post pictures of the last project once Mark has it completed....

You Heard It Here First!

Monday, November 16th, 2015

I am no good at keeping secrets but in this case that is a good thing for you! Amy and Mark are extending their Wicked Quiet Season Rates into December! Usually these rates begin in January but this year, as a holiday gift to you, they are making these great low room rates available in December. A couple conditions apply – these rates are not valid December 24th through December 31st when the regular Quiet Season Rates will be in effect. In addition, the Wicked Quiet Season Rates cannot be combined with any other special offers including returning guests discounts, bedandbreakfast.com gift certificates or bookings from third party websites. As a reminder, Wicked Quiet Season Rates are $100/night for the Downeaster and Niagara Rooms and $120/night for the Garden Suite and Packard Room. The rate does not include the 8% lodging tax....

Before You Book Your B&B

Tuesday, November 10th, 2015

I am no expert on Bed and Breakfast but I do have a fair amount of experience since I see and hear a lot as I lounge around our B&B. One of the things I have noticed with guests staying at a B&B for the first time is they are often surprised that they are staying in someone’s home. Yes, our B&B is our home but it is also open to the public to come and stay. This concept is new to many and brings up different issues for people so I thought I would clear up some things and make booking your next, or first, stay at a B&B as easy as possible....
