Easy Focaccia Bread

1 t white sugar

1 pkg. active dry yeast

3/4 C warm water (110 degrees F)

2 C all-purpose flour

In a small bowl or measuring cup dissolve the sugar and yeast in the water and let sit until foamy – about 10 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine the flour with the yeast mixture stirring well to combine. If the mixture looks too dry and the flour is not getting totally absorbed – add 1 T of warm water at a time until the dough comes together. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead briefly to form a ball.

Place dough in lightly oiled bowl and turn to coat in the oil. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450.

Once the dough has risen press out onto a sheet of parchment paper. You can do either a rectangle or circle. Using your fingertips make divots in the dough. Place dough with parchment on a cooking sheet. Brush dough with olive oil or butter if desired and add any flavorings – salt, fresh herbs, dried herbs, cheese – there are tons of options!

Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 20 minutes depending on desired crispness! Enjoy!
